My Background and Credentials
I originate from Stoke-on-Trent – the Potteries and came to Nottinghamshire to teach in 1974 with a Certificate of Education. I was a Secondary school teacher for 37 years, during which time I taught PE, Humanities, Careers Education, Personal, Social, and Health Education and ran a Community Scheme for students in their final year where students went into hospitals, homes for the elderly, worked with special needs, worked in schools, with the sole purpose of learning about themselves and others.
I worked with young offenders in a voluntary capacity for two years in Mansfield and Ashfield where I was a group leader on the ‘Youth At Risk’ project that was supported by Americans and a team from London.
I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham where I studied a one year Foundation course in Psychotherapy and then a 4 years Masters course in Integrative Psychotherapy, qualifying with a Post Graduate Diploma. During this time I did some research into the links between poetry, song lyrics and psychotherapy.
My placements included working at a Women’s Centre, the YMCA in Mansfield and Family Care in Nottingham where I then went on to cover maternity leave for a year before becoming self-employed as a Behaviour Consultant & Independent Integrative Psychotherapist.
I have contracts with local schools and can offer some private work.
Each year I continue with my own Professional Development in the UK and in Spain and have regular individual and Group Supervision.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) – MBACP and abide by their Code of Ethics.
